Tell us about the location in the photos.
Blacks Beach is part of Torrey Pines State Reserve located in San Diego. It’s a pretty big park and fun to explore. With some interesting erosion formations and the beach just down below 350ft cliffs. Blacks is a pretty sweet surf spot too! It goes off on good swells, which I’m still waiting to capture. If you make it far enough down the beach you’ll run into a building that looks like it could be part of a sci-fi film. Crazy enough its someones beach house.
How did you get started in photography?
I would say around the age of 8, my parents got me a Steven Spielberg Lego Movie Maker Set. I remember spending hours creating short stop motion films. It was a pretty cool set and taught me a lot about the creative process. I wish I still had the videos I created, it would probably be a good laugh. I guess it was an interesting gateway to get me into photography.
Does anything in particular influence your photography style?
A couple sites that I look at for inspiration are iso50.com, VSCO Journal, and Vimeo. Of course Instagram is a key place as well, lots of cool people to follow. I especially enjoy the work of Charles Bergquist, Reuben Wu, John Hook, Tim Navis, and Owen Perry. They are always pushing some boundaries.
What photography gear do you use?
I use a few different cams depending on what I’m shooting. Currently I’ve been using Mamiya RB67, Canon A-1, DJI Phantom, GoPro, and of course the iphone.
For post I use Lightroom, VSCO Films, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects and VSCO CAM.
Are there any products you swear by?
I would say my phone. It’s simple and is always with me.
What is your dream adventure photography location?
A couple random spots would be Arizona, Utah, Iceland, New Zealand, and Western Australia. It’s hard to list them all because there’s a lot a sweet spots in the world.
