Tell us about the location in the photos.
These photos are from far north Queensland in Australia – around Cairns, near the great barrier reef. It is an amazing place – the best time of year to go is winter/spring, summer is really humid, & you can’t swim in the ocean in summer due to stingers! When I went up (the start of October) it was amazing weather like 24 degrees celsius day & night! It has definite holiday vibes & some beautiful places that aren’t even crowded!
How did you get started in photography?
A magazine called “Movement” really brought photography to my attention when I was in high school. I got a little digital video camera & started making movies for about 6 months until my friend left it at the beach & I never owned a camera again until Steve Jobs invented the iPhone. Someone gave me their old iPhone, I got instagram – & like the rest of the world pretended I was a photographer…
Does anything in particular influence your photography style?
Some of the early inspirations when I really got hooked in photography definitely set up & influenced my style heaps. I still hope to take half as good a photo as guys like Jared Chambers & Chris Ozer…
What photography gear do you use?
Currently I’m still using an iPhone 5s… and depression is ensuing – I really hope to have an SLR before the end of the year! (Thanks Santa, please!)
Are there any products you swear by?
The Optrix Case is what I am using for the iPhone, & it’s great! (Use the code “ryanp” on optrix.com for 15% off.)
What is your dream adventure photography location?
I seriously want to go everywhere. Firstly, South Island, New Zealand as it’s so close to home. Obligatorily, Iceland. ASAP’ly Antartica. Definitely Egypt. Unquestionably Alaska. Swiftly to Sweden & Switzerland. And anywhere else time would allow. 🙂
