Weekly Sounds: Bruce Brubaker, Glass Piano

Bruce Brubaker’s album Glass Piano is a recent favorite I picked up on vinyl and have listened to quite a bit while at work. The album is a collection of songs by Phillip Glass, many of which are known as some of his most famous compositions.

Weekly Sounds: Heathered Pearls, Body Complex

Body Complex, by Heathered Pearls, was one of my most anticipated albums of the new year, and I’ve been listening to it constantly since it came out. It has much of the dark ambiance of preceeding album Loyal, but with more beats and percussion than that album.

Weekly Sounds: Kyle Bobby Dunn

Bring Me The Head of Kyle Bobby Dunn, by Kyle Bobby Dunn, is about as minimal as it gets when it comes to recent ambient music. However minimal it is, there’s some incredible depth to the textures and soundscapes and this is by far my favorite album to listen to when going to sleep.

Weekly Sounds: Christopher Willits, Opening

Opening, by Christopher Willits, is another one of my favorite recent ambient albums, and it was released in 2014 on Ghostly International. It’s great music for focusing and is filled with calming ambient soundscapes.

Weekly Sounds – Marconi Union, Weightless

Marconi Union are a Manchester, England trio who make a mix of downtempo and experimental ambient music, and in 2011 they released the single track Weightless – a track that was later named “the most relaxing song in the history of man” by scientists.

Weekly Sounds – Loscil, Endless Falls

Endless Falls, by Loscil, was an album that made a lot of sense to listen to this past weekend as it was raining – not so much for the raindrops on the cover image, but for music that just seems perfect for watching grey clouds float past and wanting the right music to accompany that.

Photographers: Thorsten Nunnemann – Aachen, Germany

I came across Thorsten Nunnemann’s photography recently on Flickr and spent quite a while browsing the beautiful photos he’s taken of various places around the world. The mountainous photos of Allgäu, Germany, shown below along with a few others, are breathtaking. Thorsten lives in Aachen, Germany, and takes photos with a Fuji X-E2 und Fuji X100s. Weekly Sounds – Mogwai, Les Revenants Soundtrack

Mogwai are an incredibly great band from Glasgow, Scotland, who have been making some of the greatest instrumental rock music ever since forming in 1995. The soundtrack for Les Revenants at their finest with the guitar assault turned down for this interesting French supernatural drama.

Weekly Sounds: Steve Hauschildt, Tragedy & Geometry

Steve Hauschildt is an electronic musician I discovered a couple of years ago, and this particular album is a frequent listen for me on headphones. I’ve got the vinyl of this as well. The album – entirely played on synths – is made up of the ebb-and-flow of simple arpeggiated loops, minimal on their own but quite complex as they overlap each other and fade in and out.

Photographers: Julia Joppien – Berlin, Germany

Some really exceptional photography from Julia Joplin, a photographer who lives and works in Berlin, Germany. I absolutely love the tones and textures to her images, which she shot with a Fuji XPro 1. These are just a small collection of her photos, so be sure to check her out on VSCO Grid and Flickr. […]

Weekly Sounds – Port St. Willow, Holidy

Holiday, by Port St. Willow, is probably one of my favorite late-night albums of the last few years. It’s a little less ambient than some of the albums I’ve posted, but the heavy reverb on vocals and instrumentation definitely lend to an ambient quality in the music.
