Tell us about the location in the photos.
I was commissioned by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board to shoot a road trip through the country. NI has received a lot of negative press over the years but my experiences couldn’t have been more positive. Hugely welcoming people and the landscape is stunning… rugged coastline, inland lakes, ancient forests. No wonder the area is used as a location for Game of Thrones.
How did you get started in photography?
I am self taught but have a background in design. I think the experience I gained working as a designer was invaluable and certainly helped develop my visual sensibilities. I started shooting to compliment my design work and it was more about learning the technical aspects of photography as opposed to composition/framing which came fairly naturally.
Does anything in particular influence your photography style?
Childhood experiences for sure… spare time was spent aboard my Dad’s sailboat; making passage across the sea for days and nights on end… watching tiny ships hug the horizon… lots of time to think. Such experiences have formed who I am today and definitely feed into the images I make.
