Tell us about the location in the photos.

These images were taken in the Sunrise region of Mount Rainier National Park. This was the first time I have ever visited Sunrise and the views did not disappoint.

This was definitely a trip I will always remember. The initial goal was to go the park and take some photos of the stars. The day started out beautifully, but the clouds started to roll in during sunset and it looked like Mother Nature wasn’t going to allow it to happen. Fortunately, the clouds cleared just enough and the rest is just an amazing memory.

How did you get started in photography?

When I moved out to Seattle in 2007 I started to shoot with my dads Olympus OM-1 and that sparked my interest in photography. I spent the next few years trying to learn as much as I could and envisioning the types of images I wanted to take, but I wasn’t getting out there to take the images. In 2012, I joined Instagram and saw people taking photos in all these amazing places. That was the push that I needed to start getting out there and capturing the images that I had always envisioned. Since then, I’ve been trying to get out as much as I can and pushing myself to learn something new every time I go out.

Does anything in particular influence your photography style?

There are so many photographers that I draw inspiration from. A few of my favorites are Chris Ozer, Benjamin Heath and Alex Strohl. Each of these photographers captures perfectly composed images with beautiful colors and tones.

What photography gear do you use?

Canon 5D Mark II, 35mm f/1.4 (my favorite lens) and a 50mm f/1.2.

Are there any products you swear by?

I highly recommend the Canon 35mm f/1.4. I love the focal length and it’s a great lens for shooting landscapes or portraits. For post-process I would be lost without VSCO’s products for Lightroom. The film packs have helped me get my images to the look I want and Keys helps speed up my workflow.

What is your dream adventure photography location?

I would love to shoot the northern lights. So with that in mind I would probably have to say Iceland, Norway or Alaska.
